MYFANWY POWELL

I was born in Wales in 1996 and lived in Llangedwyn, a small village in Powys. I studied at Shrewsbury Junior and Senior High School and acquired a First Class (Hons) degree in BA Fine Art and a Merit degree in MA Fine Art at Aberystwyth University. My work experience includes working at Whitmore and Humphries Architects in Oswestry, 2012 and at the Osborne Studio Gallery in 2015. I have taken part in a life drawing course with equine artist Eva Dutton, pastel workshops with fellow animal portrait painter Mary Herbert in 2013, 2014 and 2015, an SEA workshop of drawing horses from life in Newmarket 2012 and an SEA workshop on Structure and Movement in Oxfordshire 2015. I have painted at local shows in the past and my work has reached local galleries and country stores. Galleries I have shown in include The Mall Galleries in London, Sally Mitchell’s Gallery 'The Museum of the Horse' in Tuxford , The Osborne Studio Gallery in Knightsbridge, London, The National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket and the Willow Gallery in Oswestry. I am now currently based in Hampshire where I live with my husband, and in my spare time I ride and compete with my own horse at eventing.

FEATURED ARTWORK

In 2015 I was honoured to have won The Pony Club and SEA’s art competition ‘The John King Young Artist Award’ after having been a finalist in 2013 and the runner-up in 2014. I was also thrilled to discover my painting ‘Caballo Español’ had been awarded ‘The Visitor’s Choice Award’ in 2015 during the exhibition of ‘The Horse in Art’ in Tuxford and London.

In 2016 I was delighted to have been featured on the front page of the June edition of the Shropshire Magazine.

My name is Myfanwy Powell. I am a professional artist skilled in several artistic mediums and I have been painting commissions of horses and dogs since the age of 16. I studied Fine Art at Aberystwyth University and acquired a First Class (Hons) degree for my BA and a Merit degree for my MA. I am currently based in Powys and in my spare time I ride and compete with my own horse at eventing. I work primarily in oils and create bespoke portraits of my client’s beloved animals: including horses, dogs and cats. I also create much of my own work which is primarily equestrian based. I offer a variety of sizes and I am very happy to take on commissions of any scale and of any composition. It is very important to me that I can accommodate my clients on however they wish their cherished companion to be brought to life on canvas.
